Add individuality to your home with a family portrait

One of the joys of our job is meeting inspiring, creative people who have also made a business out of their passions. One such person was Leanne Pearce, a talented artist who, along with husband Gareth, has been restoring a gorgeous Victorian terraced house overlooking Saltwell Park in Gateshead.

We came across Leanne as we’d photographed her friend’s kitchen and she suggested we take a look at her home, which has been transformed on a tight budget. We were wowed by her clever up-cycling ideas, knack for finding charity shop bargains and keen eye for display. It was clear she had a knack for interior design - and she told us she was starting a portraiture business too.

After photographing her bathroom for Real Homes magazine, we later returned to shoot her children’s bedroom for Style at Home magazine. Previously a studio cum dumping ground she’d done an amazing job in creating a space for both Josephine, three and Boadicea, one to sleep and play.

As well as adding paper pom poms in one corner and painting balloons in another, Leanne had drawn the children’s initials in metallic paint by their beds.
But what really made it unique was the stunning pastel portraits of her children. With a degree in Fine Art, Leanne’s been drawing portraits for friends and family for many years, so it was a no-brainer to turn this talent into a business.
